Beginning Teacher Support & Assessment/Induction

Consideration for Early Completion

 Beginning Teacher Support & Assessment/Induction (BTSA) programs were originally designed to be completed over the course of two years.  Open to all participants, those who qualify for the program’s Early Completion option will be “fast-tracked” into a one year program, completing the program’s second year formative assessments (California Formative Assessment & Support System for Teachers events# 7-12), while still being responsible for completion of all credentialing requirements under Standard 5, Pedagogy and Standard 6, Universal Access. As stated above, although open to all participants, preferred candidates include:

        mFirst year participants who completed an intern program within California;

mFirst year out-of-state participants with experience that qualifies them to be recommended for their professional clear credential through an induction program;

mFirst year out-of-country participants with experience that qualifies them to be recommended for their professional clear credential through an induction program;

mFirst year participants with experience under an internship or preliminary credential in a private school setting.

FEarly Completion Option candidates must also provide a copy of their satisfactory teaching evaluation from their previous year’s experience. If such an evaluation is unavailable, they must provide a letter of recommendation from their most recent site administrator which highlights their strengths and growth areas.

FEarly Completion Option candidates must also complete CFASST event #1 in collaboration with their Support Provider prior to requesting consideration for the Early Completion Option.

F Early Completion Option candidates must also complete all SB2042 induction requirements for Standards 5 and 6 must still be completed.  If accepted as an Early Completion Option candidate, your participation in BTSA/Induction will be streamlined to a single year, but your responsibilities to complete your induction requirements in those standards remain the same.

If you are interested in applying for consideration for the program’s Early Completion Option, please contact the BTSA/Induction office at 951-788-7540 or blibolt@rusd.k12.ca.us.   Once your prior year’s teaching evaluation (or a letter from your site administrator as described above) and completed CFASST event #1 have been turned in to the BTSA office, your current site administrator and the induction program director will arrange time for a lesson observation, complete with pre- and post-conferences, and a collaborative analysis of student work resulting from that lesson (CFASST event #3). Both your site administrator and the program director will then decide, based on evidence of your prior evaluation, completed CFASST event #1, lesson planning, lesson observation, and analysis of student work, if you qualify for the Early Completion option.

To be considered for early completion, please have both your site administrator and the Beginning Teacher Support & Assessment/Induction program director complete the attached sheets.  Once both your site administrator and the program director have had the opportunity to review one of your content standards-based lesson plans, observe you teach that lesson, and, in collaboration with you, examine student work from that lesson, ask them to return the completed sheets in the attached, addressed envelope.  Remember:  you must have submitted your prior year’s  teaching evaluation and  completed CFASST Event #1, including the selection of two focus students, prior to being considered for the Early Completion Option.

Once both your principal and the program director have reviewed the required paperwork, completed their observations, and conferenced with you, you will be informed via district mail as to whether or not you are recommended for the Early Completion Option.
